Alabama’s 2027 health insurance rates are done. Not proposed. Not under review. Done.
The Alabama Department of Insurance finalized the individual market rates in September 2026. The weighted average increase is 20.7 percent. One carrier is going up 33.8 percent. Another is climbing 27.5 percent.
This is the second consecutive year of roughly 20 percent increases. In 2026, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama raised rates 19.3 percent, UnitedHealthcare went up 20 percent, and Celtic Insurance raised rates 25 percent. Alabama enrollees absorbed all of it. Now they are being asked to absorb it again.
