Drought busting rains Gulf States, widespread flooding likely, more gloom & doom in the East

The big weather story today is across the Deep South. Flood Watches from East and South Texas eastward across the Gulf States to Georgia. We have already seen numerous flash flood warnings along and inland of the Texas Coastal Bend where 5 inches or or more of rain has fallen. Rainfall forecasts continue to show additional rainfall amounts of 6 inches or more across this region. Additional flash flood warnings are likely today from Louisiana to Mississippi and Alabama. The good news here is that these are drought busting rains for the Gulf States which are still dealing with an extreme to exceptional drought conditions especially in Louisiana.

Meanwhile the Northeast is in a gloom and doom pattern but thankfully it won’t be raining every waking minute over the next couple of days. Overnight the first system which was a weak system is passing to the east and the satellite and radar showing that rain moving out. We may just spend the day in lots of clouds and the sun might even be able to poke through the clouds in some places. However we are setting up for more rain. Any lingering cold air is gone and highs teoday will mostly in the middle to upper 40s.
