After a brief break in wet weather, another round of widespread rain and mountain snow is set to impact the Sacramento Valley and surrounding areas Friday afternoon through Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for elevations above 6,000 feet in the northern Sierra and southern Cascades, effective from 5 PM Friday to 5 PM Saturday. Snow levels are expected to start around 6,000-6,500 feet Friday afternoon, dropping to 5,000-6,000 feet overnight. Snowfall accumulations of 5-10 inches are anticipated, with even higher amounts possible over mountain peaks.
Rainfall totals in the Valley will range from 0.25 to 1.5 inches, with lower amounts forecasted for the Central Sacramento and Northern San Joaquin Valleys. Sacramento and Redding metro areas are expected to receive around 0.4 to 0.5 inches. There is also a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms late Friday night into early Saturday, though any impacts are expected to be minimal.
