Governor Brian Kemp has signed an executive order mandating that all flags on state buildings be flown at half-staff in honor of Sergeant Kennedy L. Sanders on February 17. As previously reported, Sanders, a native of Waycross, is one of three individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice last month, losing her life at the age of 24 in a drone strike at a U.S. base in Jordan.
The executive order was signed on February 6, and states:
Sergeant Kennedy Landon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, honorably served our country in the United States Army Reserve. Sergeant and two other soldiers were tragically killed in a drone attack at a base in Jordan on January 28, 2023.
Sergeant Sanders enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2019 as a Horizontal Construction Engineer.
It is fitting and proper to recognize the sacrifices made by Sergeant Sanders by lowering the flags on all State buildings and grounds to half-staff.
Now, therefore, in honor and as a mark of respect for the memory of Sergeant Kennedy Landon Sanders, pursuant to the authority vested in me as governor of the state of Georgia, it is hereby that the flag of the United States and the flag of the state of Georgia be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds on Saturday, February 17, 2024, the day of Sergeant Sanders’ interment.
