IL Governor Pritzker Expresses Disappointment Over Chicago City Council’s Gaza Ceasefire Resolution

J.B. Pritzker criticizes Chicago City Council’s failure to address Hamas’ actions

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker voiced criticism on Thursday towards the symbolic ceasefire resolution passed by Chicago’s City Council between Israel and Hamas a day prior.

Governor Pritzker expressed his concerns, emphasizing that the resolution falls short in holding Hamas accountable for their actions. He particularly highlighted the omission of acknowledging the crimes committed by the group, expressing disappointment that the City Council did not consider the perspectives of victims, including women who suffered from Hamas actions, people kidnapped by fighters crossing into Israel, and the deaths caused by these terrorists.

Pritzker added skepticism, stating that he believes the resolution will have no significant impact on foreign policy or the ongoing Middle East situation. Despite facing opposition from Alderwoman Debra Silverstein, who deemed it lopsided, the resolution narrowly passed by a single vote, thanks to Mayor Brandon Johnson.
