Illinois Route 66 Grant Program receives $3.3 million boost for 7 programs
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, alongside the Illinois Department Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), unveiled a substantial investment of $3.3 million into the Route 66 Grant Program. The announcement, made on Wednesday, highlights the state’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the iconic Route 66.
Among the recipients, the Bloomington Illinois Visitors Bureau stands to receive $180,400 to bolster various initiatives along the historic route. These include supporting the creation of murals in Lexington, Bloomington, and McLean, Illinois installing electric vehicle (EV) chargers in Normal, and establishing Route 66 Centennial Signs.
Governor Pritzker expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing Route 66’s significance as a cultural landmark that traverses Illinois and captivates millions across the nation. He stated, “Like so many great things, Route 66 begins in Chicago, travels across Illinois, and spreads across the country delighting millions and forming an essential part of our nation.”
