AES price hike approved. See how much your bill will increase

INDIANAPOLIS — AES Indiana customers will soon be paying more for electricity after a rate increase request was approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

The new rate will be phased in next year and will increase customer’s bills by an average monthly cost of $9.36.

The IURC said AES Indiana originally requested an increase that would have cost customers an additional $17.49 a month, but an agreement was struck between the utility company and the commission to approve the rate at a lesser amount.

“The newly approved agreement will mitigate the customer rate impact while ensuring AES Indiana has the revenues needed to provide service as required under Indiana law,” said Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor Bill Fine.

Also increasing as part of the agreement is the customer charge. Most customers are already charged $16.75 as part of AES Indiana’s monthly customer charge . That fee will increase by a quarter to $17 as part of the new agreement.
