Brookfield and NextEra Selected for $100B Paducah AI and Energy Hub

Brookfield would develop and operate a Kentucky AI and high-performance-computing campus, while NextEra Energy Resources would develop dedicated energy infrastructure that could include up to 2 GW of natural-gas-fired generation and up to 2.6 GW of battery storage.

Allstream Insiders Summary

The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Brookfield to develop and operate a planned AI and high-performance-computing campus and selected NextEra Energy to build and own the dedicated energy resources intended to serve it at the former Paducah uranium-enrichment site in Western Kentucky.

The proposed Paducah American Energy Hub would combine a computing campus with up to 2 GW of grid-connected natural-gas-fired generation, transmission upgrades, and up to 2.6 GW of battery energy-storage capacity. DOE has described the planned campus as having up to 1.8 GW of utility load, while the project coalition has cited more than 1.2 GW of compute capacity once fully constructed.

The project remains at the announced-development stage. Definitive documentation must still be negotiated and executed, and the proposed power-service arrangement requires Kentucky Public Service Commission approval. The approximately $100 billion private-investment figure is an estimate for the project’s first 20 years and is subject to change; it is not a federal grant, DOE appropriation, or disclosed construction-only budget.
