Minnesota Officials Call Out GOP Hypocrisy on Infrastructure Funding

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and other officials are calling out the hypocrisy of GOP lawmakers who voted against the infrastructure bill, H.R.3684 that provided federal funding, then took credit for the money.

The criticism stems from a $1.058 billion federal grant awarded to Minnesota to replace the aging Blatnik Bridge connecting Duluth and Superior, Wisconsin. The grant was made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed in 2021.

However, Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) voted against the infrastructure bill but then praised the Blatnik Bridge grant on social media, saying he was “proud to help deliver these funds.”

In 2021, Stauber explained his opposition to the bill saying, “I will not be complicit in paving a destructive and irreversible path towards socialism. This massive spending package is not about real infrastructure, and instead will make businesses less competitive, outsource jobs, saddle American families and future generations with more debt and higher taxes, send inflation soaring to greater heights, and completely devastate our economy.”
