Five states have 2027 dates on the calendar for ending SNAP purchases of soda and candy: Wyoming on Feb. 1, Kansas and Missouri on Feb. 15, and Hawaii and Ohio on April 1. The dates come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s list of SNAP food restriction waivers, which was last updated Nov. 3, 2026.
The list labels each one a target implementation date, and several have already shifted once. Nothing changes at the register today; the limits apply only after each state’s start date.
The Five Start Dates, State by State
Wyoming, Feb. 1, 2027. USDA’s Wyoming page shows an approval dated March 4, 2026, effective Feb. 1, 2027, for two years. The state asked to exclude “sweetened, carbonated beverages” from the SNAP definition of food for purchase. USDA’s list shows earlier target dates elsewhere, including Nov. 1, 2026 for Montana and North Dakota, a pair covered in a post on SNAP limits on energy drinks and candy in Montana and North Dakota.
Kansas, Feb. 15, 2027. USDA’s Kansas page carries a March 4, 2026 approval letter addressed to Gov. Laura Kelly and the state’s Department for Children and Families. It covers two years starting Feb. 15, 2027, and the state asked to exclude candy and soft drinks. Careful grocery shopping is an old habit, one that shows up in a look at boomer habits that are making a comeback. Another look at the Kansas and Missouri start is in a recent post on candy becoming off limits for SNAP shoppers on Feb. 15, 2027…
