South Dakota honors new inspection station with truck driver appreciation event

The South Dakota Highway Patrol held a trucker appreciation event to honor the opening of their new inspection facility.

The event was held on Wednesday, September 18th at the Tilford Port of Entry near Rapid City, South Dakota.

According to KOTA TV News , officers cooked burgers, hot dogs, and other sides for any truckers that happened to pass by from 10 a.m until 4 p.m.. The officers also offered tours of the new partially-indoor inspection facility.

“The big difference is this bay behind us. Now we can do inspections all year-round. We don’t have to worry about the weather or the snow out here in the parking lot or whether or not we can crawl under a truck,” said  Brian Stenbeck, an inspector at the port of entry.

In addition to the inspection bay, the facility now features an indoor area where truckers can wait to have their rig inspected away from the elements.
