STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A years-long investigation by the Office of the Attorney General has found that 45 New York Nissan dealerships — including a location on Staten Island — added junk fees or falsified the price of leased vehicles, forcing customers to pay higher costs. According to a press release issued by the AG, Nissan will now pay restitution for those overcharges.
“Buying a car is a major financial decision, and New Yorkers should not have to worry about dealers using illegal junk fees to drive up the price,” said Attorney General Letitia James. “Nissan dealers across New York misled their customers with junk fees and other costs to cheat them out of their hard-earned money. After securing refunds for customers of 15 Nissan dealerships, my office is now making sure that every New Yorker who was defrauded by any Nissan dealership gets their money back. We will always take action to stop illegal schemes that deceive consumers.”
Attorney General James previously secured settlements with 15 different Nissan dealerships in 2024, each location found to have falsified the price of vehicles between 2020 and 2023.
