STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With enrollment dropping across New York City, new data suggests a growing number of Staten Island students are choosing options beyond traditional public schools.
An analysis of enrollment numbers by the city education department’s Office of District Planning showed that enrollment citywide in grades K-12 was 8.6% lower in the 2024-2025 school year, compared to five years earlier. Enrollment is not dropping as significantly on Staten Island, showing a 5% decline in the same five-year span, according to data.
