‘We were supposed to celebrate’: Staten Island mom suffers devastating brain injury after hit-and-run

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Port Richmond resident Diana Rolon, 60, had a lot to be thankful for in her life — she recently marked her 60th birthday and her son, Michael, just earned his high school diploma from The Michael J. Petrides School.

Despite this, she was still overcome with grief on Father’s Day, June 21. It would mark the first father’s day without her dad, Juan Rolon, who died last September.

But the resilient single-mom, who worked as a paraprofessional at PS373R in Tompkinsville, found a way to occupy her time that day. She spotted a garage sale in her neighborhood and stopped in to pick up a few trinkets…
