Could European electric ferry technology come to Staten Island? BP calls on city to explore

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Many in the Staten Island workforce deal with lengthy inter-borough commutes exceeding an hour. Now, imagine how much time you’d get back in your life if that commute was cut down to about a half hour.

That prospect could be possible, according to Borough President Vito Fossella, who cited new ferry technology already in use in parts of Europe.

Fossella is officially asking the New York City Economic Development Corporation to begin the process of opening up a dialogue with companies that could provide a fast ferry service to and from different areas on Staten Island…
