Dedicated Staten Island veteran earns significant promotion after 20 years of service

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Port Richmond veteran with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 4 in the New York Army National Guard during a ceremony at Camp Smith near Peekskill on June 25.

Carlos Perez, 41, who currently serves as the warrant officer strength manager for the New York Army National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention Battalion, received recognition for more than two decades of military service that began when he enlisted in August 2002.

Lt. Col. John Harder, commander of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, praised Perez during the ceremony for his dedication to filling warrant officer positions. Harder described Perez as “someone truly special in our formation.”…
