STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Signs critical of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s planned attendance at Friday’s Sept. 11 commemoration in Manhattan surfaced on Staten Island this week, drawing criticism from at least one Muslim resident who said the displays spread hate and should be removed.
Multiple signs were observed by the Advance/SILive.com posted along a fence on Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp.
One depicts a caricature of Mamdani with red eyes and thick arching eyebrows laughing next to imagery of the World Trade Center attacks. The caricature has him holding an over-exaggerated yellow smile and beard over his face, and wearing a T-shirt with a communist symbol on it, while pointing at the towers.
