Staten Island throws color in its 1st‑ever large-scale Holi festival (148 photos)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Members of Staten Island’s South Asian community joined together for a colorful Rang De Holi festival in Midland Beach on Saturday afternoon.

The event was organized by the Staten Island Hindu Temple, in association with GlimmR Events & Entertainment, marking the first time a large-scale, color-throwing Holi celebration was held on Staten Island.

Kamala Anantharam, a trustee of the 1,000-member Staten Island Hindu Temple, said, “The event is the realization of a long-held vision to host a vibrant Holi festival, featuring music, food, and an outdoor function where we can throw colors, enjoy music, dance, and celebrate as a community.”…
