Purple fentanyl and cocaine busts: How Staten Island prosecutors are cracking down on deadly drug dealers

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The fight against the drug crisis remains in high gear, illustrated most recently by prosecution in Staten Island courts of eight different alleged dealers — ranging in age from their 20’s to 60’s, and hailing from across the borough.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Gamberg, deputy chief of the Narcotics Investigations Bureau, highlighted the slate of major drug prosecutions during the March meeting of the Staten Island Fentanyl and Overdose Task Force at the office of District Attorney Michael E. McMahon in St. George.

Among them, the District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting two defendants they allege peddled large quantities of fentanyl to undercover officers, and are linked to separate fatal overdoses on Staten Island…
