STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island delegation in the City Council is among a bipartisan group of officials urging the Department of Sanitation to delay enforcement of New York City’s mandate to use officially designated rat-resistant trash containers.
In arguing their case, the officials penned a letter addressed to Sanitation Commissioner Gregory Anderson. In that correspondence, the group raised concerns that despite efforts to comply with the June 1 enforcement deadline, many constituents are unable to obtain the required bins due to availability and cost issues.
