In a historic moment for the Brentwood Police Department (BPD), Officers Jordan Sares and Nicholas Bugnatto have been recognized with the prestigious Medal of Valor, marking the first time in BPD history that this esteemed award has been bestowed upon deserving officers, the department announced.
The Medal of Valor is one of the highest recognitions within the BPD, reserved for department employees who exhibit extraordinary acts of bravery, heroism, and courage that transcend the normal call of duty. The exceptional actions of Officers Sares and Bugnatto during a critical incident on March 12th, 2023, earned them this coveted award.
The incident unfolded shortly after 9 PM when Dispatch received a distressing call reporting an armed suspect holding a victim hostage. As officers arrived on the scene, they were met with the harrowing sound of gunshots in the immediate vicinity. Displaying unwavering commitment and without hesitation for their own safety, Officer Sares, Officer Bugnato, and their fellow BPD officers swiftly moved towards the source of gunfire, police said.
