Judge says life in prison is not enough for this man after he burst out laughing at his crimes in court

A Syracuse man who pleaded guilty to murdering his 11-year-old son and his girlfriend will spend 40 years to life in prison, after a sentencing hearing where a judge said even life behind bars was not enough for what he had done.

CNY Central’s reporting followed the case from David Huff’s arrest through his court appearances and final sentencing. Connor Wight reported on the police search that led to Huff’s arrest after the killings, while Rachel Culver later reported from court as grieving family members filled the gallery and Judge Theodore Limpert handed down the sentence.

Huff was convicted in the deaths of his son, 11-year-old Jeremiah Huff, and 32-year-old Yeraldith Tschudy, who were killed inside a home on Roney Road in Syracuse in March 2025. Prosecutors said Huff used a 12-gauge shotgun in the attack.
