Syracuse Polish Festival celebrates community, culture in its 70th year

Syracuse, N.Y. — In the back of a box truck parked in Clinton Square, members of the Utica Polish Community Club peel potatoes by the hundreds.

In front of their tent, Lydia Cerdo, 83, stands in her traditional Polish outfit, waiting to help people bag their pierogi plates and pose for a frequently-requested photo.

“It doesn’t matter the nation, we are all Polish today,” she said.

And the Polish Pride was evident – red, white and crowned eagles decorated shirts, flags and dog bandanas across the square…
