Strong morning thunderstorms move east this afternoon

UPDATE (10:20AM) TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT ACROSS CENTRAL NEW YORK TILL 3PM.

A strong low-pressure system is tracking across the Great Lakes region bringing central New York gusty winds and the chance of severe thunderstorms today.

Wind Advisories are in effect in Syracuse and across the immediate area as wind gusts ranging between 40-50mph could lead to downed trees and/or isolated power outages.

Elevated Lake Ontario water levels combined with significant wave heights will likely cause minor lake shore flooding later today and into Friday. The National Weather Service has lakeshore flood warnings in effect from 2PM today till 8PM Friday.

The cold front associated with this passing low will fire up a scattered line of strong/severe thunderstorms that move from west to east later this morning. These storms will likely intensify the further east they travel, indicated by a higher threat level below…
