State awards $2.2 million for Syracuse Habitat for Humanity’s biggest project ever

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse Habitat for Humanity is getting a big boost for its plans to build seven new single-family houses on a block in the city’s South Side neighborhood.

A $3.1 million project to add seven affordably priced homes on West Brighton and Forest avenues has secured $2.15 million from the New York Housing Financing Agency, which approved the funding at its June meeting.

The roughly $300,000-per-unit in state subsidy provides the key financing for Syracuse Habitat to pursue the largest project in its 42-year history of building affordable homes in the region.
