State police: Baldwinsville attorney tried to fly to Qatar after arrest for allegations of stealing $4.7K

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Authorities said a Central New York attorney attempted to escape the United States for Qatar after getting charged with grand larceny days earlier.

New York State Police Trooper Aga Tinker said in a statement that an investigation concluded that while 41-year-old Donatello Marof Lazarati, of Baldwinsville, was working with Chenango County’s Assigned Counsel Program, he allegedly turned in duplicate billing to the county for the same legal services and unlawfully accepted around $4,700.

State police arrested Lazarati on June 23 for third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony. He was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned at the Chenango County Jail on June 24, but was ordered by the court not to leave the country and surrender his passport by June 26…
