ONONDAGA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Onondaga Community College is adding three more majors to its free-tuition program for adult students.
The college is catering to career fields in demand in Central New York amid the hype around Micron’s microchip factory in Clay.
Through the SUNY Reconnect program, adults aged 25 to 55 can return to college for free to earn associate degrees. The newest majors that the program now offers include:
- Commercial/Heavy Equipment service repair
- Fire Protection Technology
- Supply Chain Management
The addition of these majors to the SUNY Reconnect program comes as Micron moves into the area and OCC is prepping its students for jobs.
“They are excellent degrees to get into; they are all considered in-demand fields,” said Jessica Mitchell, the school’s returning student coordinator. “They get hands-on experience right here on our campus; we have a cleanroom right in our Whitney building that will give them the exact experience of what they would see at Micron.”…
