SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a splendid and sunny Sunday, the new work week could start with a bang as strong thunderstorms could be in the mix for parts of Central New York. There is a moderate risk for flash flooding from heavy rain and damage from high winds to the south and southwest of Onondaga County, especially in the middle to late afternoon and again in the middle of the evening Monday. It won’t be a complete washout, with off-and-on precipitation, mostly in the form of rain showers, and some opportunity for peaks of sunshine. While not rain-free, if you travel to the north and northeast of Onondaga County, expect weaker showers and only a small chance for a thunderstorm.

MONDAY: Partly sunny sky during the morning through early afternoon with isolated showers. It will turn warm and humid during the afternoon. Keep an eye on the sky during the mid to late afternoon hours since scattered showers and thunderstorms will pop up over portions of our area. There is a marginal low risk that a thunderstorm could become severe and cause localized wind damage and flooding rainfall. The best chance for this is to the south and southwest of Onondaga County between 4 PM and 10 PM. Highs in the mid 80s. Maximum heat index in the upper 80s. Wind S 5-10 then becoming W 5-15 with gusts to 20+ MPH.
The severe weather threat in the area is greatest from 4 PM to 10 PM Monday. Overall, this is not a major weather alert, but a more moderate level, something to be AWARE of and that needs to be watched closely to the south and southwest of Syracuse especially…
