A wave of thunderstorms and heavy rain will roll into Upstate NY this week

Syracuse, N.Y. — After a tranquil weekend, Upstate New York will see potentially severe thunderstorms and flooding rain this week.

A storm system is expected to start sliding in from the Ohio Valley on Tuesday, with the heaviest rain and best chances for thunderstorms coming on Wednesday afternoon. Damaging winds are possible Tuesday and Wednesday, and rain could linger into Thursday.

“As far as rainfall, we can say conservatively that 2 to 3 inches is going to fall, with a risk of 3 inches or more in Syracuse, the Finger Lakes and the Upper Mohawk Valley,” said Jim Brewster, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “Somebody is going to see 3 inches or more for sure.”…
