Syracuse, NY – Central New York leaders are calling on Upstate University Hospital to slow down its request to close off a busy street for its new ER and instead provide more answers about the impacts of such a permanent change.
Mayor Sharon Owens — who, along with the Common Council, has the final say in closing East Adams Street — said it’s a decision that can’t be rushed. The mayor said she supports the critical need for a new Upstate ER, which is so overcrowded and outdated that patients wait hours to be seen and thousands end up leaving without getting care.
