VILLAGE OF MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR) — The swans in Manlius have been cherished for over 100 years, and the village will celebrate the tradition on Saturday during Swan Fest.
Mute swans have been swimming in the heart of the village in the Stauffer Swan Pond since 1905, but there has been an ongoing fight with New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation to continue the breeding program.
“The swans that we have, we have a permit for,” Village of Manlius Mayor Hank Chapman said. “They’re fine; they’re able to stay. No issues at all. Right now, we don’t have a permit that allows us to breed.”…
