Lysander neighbors aim to stop developer’s multibillion-dollar data center

Lysander, N.Y. – Residents of suburban Lysander are trying to beat a data center developer to the punch, urging town officials to adopt a moratorium before the developer seeks permission to build.

James “Jim” Ranalli Jr. and his son James Ranalli III, prominent Central New York developers and business owners, are positioning 124 acres of vacant industrial land they own as a site for a massive data center capable of consuming enough electricity for a small city.

Over the past 11 months they have spent nearly $1 million on engineering studies required to connect to the electric grid – a key first step for such a large electrical load. The Ranallis said they expect a go-ahead from the state’s grid operator in as little as a few weeks…
