SYRACUSE, N.Y. — New traffic changes tied to the Interstate 81 Viaduct Project are expected to impact thousands of people traveling through the University Hill area, and many who rely on those routes daily say the adjustments are already creating challenges.
The next phase of the project includes a new roundabout at Van Buren Street, speed limit changes along Interstate 81, and redesigned access points near hospitals and college campuses. State officials said the goal is to improve safety and traffic flow as the aging viaduct is removed and replaced with a street-level community grid.
