Mini Gallery: SPD commemorates officers by unveiling honorary monument

The Syracuse Police Department unveils a monument depicting an officer kneeling atop the American flag, which honors officer Michael Jensen and lieutenant Michael Hoosock two years after their death. The two officers were fatally shot following an escalated routine traffic stop in April 2024.

The Syracuse Fire Department Station Truck 2 stands alongside officers and attendees during Tuesday’s unveiling. The ceremony took place at the statues’ permanent location at James Pass Arboretum, a city park in the South Side of Syracuse.

Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens speaks with former Common Councilor Pat Hogan of the ceremony following its conclusion. Speakers throughout the unveiling noted Owens’ assistance with the memorial’s creation.
