Syracuse seafood restaurant to expand with second Central NY location

Syracuse, N.Y. — Nine years after opening in downtown Syracuse, popular seafood bistro The Fish Friar is expanding to a second location in Ithaca and has launched a food truck.

Targeting an August opening, development began earlier this year at Triphammer Marketplace, an open-air shopping center featuring predominantly local storefronts and eateries. The spot could be just the first in a series of new locations if all goes well, co-owners Giovanni Giardina and Phil Kelly said.

Childhood best friends Giardina and Kelly established The Fish Friar with two other partners in 2015 to serve fresh New England-sourced seafood in land-locked Syracuse. The restaurant began on Milton Avenue in Solvay, then moved to its current location in Syracuse’s Courier Building at 239 E. Genesee St. in April 2017…
