Sam Nordquist came to the park bench on the shore of Canandaigua Lake to feel the peace next to the water, his sister said. A year after his death, Kayla Nordquist knelt next to a sapling in the same spot. Someone had decorated it with Easter eggs and left a rock with “Sam’s Army” painted on it. She whispered: “We’re here. We love you. We’re going to get justice.” Kayla and her mother came from Minnesota in March to meet with prosecutors about the trial of the seven people charged with her brother’s brutal murder.
