Following quarrel over aquarium funding, Onondaga County lawmakers to vote on bill clarifying donations

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — After the project to build the Harborview Aquarium in Syracuse’s Inner Harbor grew more controversial as county lawmakers demanded more transparency on the source of some of its funding, a proposed bill could remedy some of their concerns.

Onondaga County lawmakers discussed on Tuesday a bill that would require the chief fiscal officer to tell county leaders when “friends groups” give money to the county government.

Friends groups are non-profits, affiliated with but independent of the county government, that raise money for their respective parks…
