Incarcerated Syracuse Man Charged With Prison Contraband Promotion

A man from Syracuse who is incarcerated at the Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections Investigation Unit is facing felony charges after being found with contraband.

According to the BCSO, the CIU searched the living quarters of Jean C. Benitez-Melendez, acting on intelligence regarding possible contraband on April 29th. Benitez-Melendez was transferred to the correctional facility a day earlier by U.S. Marshals in Syracuse on a federal probation violation.
