Cicero, N.Y. — A new all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant has opened in Central New York.
If that seems like déjà vu, you’re not alone. Akina Sushi & Hibachi opened not even a mile away last fall, joining several new Asian restaurants that have opened in Central New York over the past year.
Fans of Akina will find similarities at Royal Stir-Fry & Sushi Buffet, which opened in February in a long-shuttered location off Brewerton Road, once home to a Buffalo Wild Wings. Royal is fairly inexpensive — dinner is $25.99 for adults, while lunch is a bargain at $17.99. Unlike Akina and other restaurants — where diners can order dishes from the menu to their heart’s content and have them brought out by a server — Royal is purely a buffet.
While it would be easy to fill the buffet with California rolls and other sushi rolls heavy on rice and light on premium ingredients, Royal, thankfully, avoids that temptation and instead puts out an impressive spread of over a dozen specialty rolls, plus another dozen or so types of sashimi and nigiri. The sushi’s quality is on par with that at the average casual sushi spot. It’s perfectly good, and, considering a single specialty roll can easily run you $15, the value is apparent…
