After fatal hit-and-run that wasn’t, a son answers online attacks on driver: ‘He deserves mercy’

Baldwinsville, N.Y. — Dan Michels’ mother had her first epileptic seizure while giving birth to him when she was 17 years old.

Those seizures changed their lives. Tammy Langford-Michels, once a telemarketer and a hotel cleaner, eventually had to give up work and driving, her son said.

The episodes would hit suddenly, knocking her to the ground with violent shaking that could last half a minute. She’d fall down the stairs, and once she started a fire. Local police and firefighters came to know her. Her son learned to try to catch her…
