Syracuse, N.Y. — Longtime advocates of Syracuse’s independent police oversight board are urging Mayor Sharon Owens to reverse a decision last month to suspend that board’s investigations because of a recent court decision.
Syracuse Citizen Review Board supporters, including a former board chair and the attorney who helped draft the city law that established the board, are telling city officials that a March Appellate Division ruling involving the city of Rochester Police Accountability Board is not applicable to Syracuse.
