Florida State’s $437 million in athletics-related debt is highlighted in a new Senate report examining the growing financial demands of college sports, including increased university and government support for athletic departments across the ACC.
The report, released Sept. 15 by Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., cites Florida State and California as examples of the long-term obligations associated with major athletics construction projects.
Its findings come as lawmakers consider changes to college sports governance and athlete compensation. Cantwell is a lead sponsor of the bipartisan Protect College Sports Act.
