“God is on the throne”: Concerned residents hold prayer meeting in protest of primate facility

A crowd of concerned residents gathered in an office space downtown Monday afternoon to hold a prayer meeting regarding Safer Human Medicine’s planned primate breeding facility. Attendees read various Bible verses, while also taking turns to pray.

“God, we know that you are in charge,” one of the event organizers, Elise Boyd, prayed. She described the topic of the prayer as “God is on the throne.” The event was organized Boyd, her business partner Lisa Wheeler, and local business owner June Faircloth. Residents expressed concern for the community as they prayed in opposition to the facility.

Boyd, a resident of Tallahassee, recently got involved in the community with Wheeler and the duo’s business. “We were so excited about the trajectory of the community,” she said. “I fell in love with it, all the people.”

Boyd stated the group plans to continue holding prayer meetings in the coming weeks. Following the prayers and reading of verses, participants discussed various plans to continue organizing against the proposed facility, including proposing a watchdog committee to attend all future local government meetings.
