Another red flag warning issued for Tallahassee as Florida fires rage

A second red flag warning for dangerous fire weather was issued for a large swatch of north Florida, including Tallahassee, as the region finds itself in the grips of one of the worst droughts in decades.

A red flag warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Tallahassee at 8:40 a.m. on Monday, April 20. This warning applies to Coffee, Dale, Henry, Geneva, Houston, North Walton, Central Walton, Holmes, Washington, Jackson, Inland Bay, Calhoun, Inland Gulf, Inland Franklin, Gadsden, Leon, Inland Jefferson, Madison, Inland Wakulla, Inland Taylor, Lafayette, Inland Dixie, South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, Coastal Franklin, Coastal Jefferson, Coastal Wakulla, Coastal Taylor, Coastal Dixie, Northern Liberty, Southern Liberty, Quitman, Clay, Randolph, Calhoun, Terrell, Dougherty, Lee, Worth, Turner, Tift, Ben Hill, Irwin, Early, Miller, Baker, Mitchell, Colquitt, Cook, Berrien, Seminole, Decatur, Grady, Thomas, Brooks, Lowndes and Lanier counties. The warning, which is the second in just three days, continues until 8 p.m. today.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
