Entering the ACC Tournament in Charlottesville, the Virginia Tech softball team was the third seed. After avoiding playing on the first day, the third-seeded Hokies took down sixth-seeded Virginia, 3-1, in the quarterfinals before shutting out Duke, 5-0, in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
That placed Virginia Tech in the ACC. Championship Game against top-seeded Florida State on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies were looking to not only win their first ACC Tournament championship since 2008, but they were also looking to slide into a Top 16-seed for next weekend’s NCAA Tournament in Blacksburg.
After grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Seminoles scored the two runs they would need in the bottom of the second to secure another ACC Tournament championship with a 2-1 win over Virginia Tech for their 20th ACC Tournament title.
Virginia Tech will again have to sweat out Selection Sunday to find out seeding
There is no doubt that the Hokies are going to the NCAA Tournament.
