Hillsborough County Traffic Alert: Lane Closures Scheduled From May 31 To June 6

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County drivers are facing a massive wave of construction delays as the Florida Department of Transportation prepares to roll out an extensive list of lane closures. Starting Sunday, May 31, and running through Saturday, June 6, 2026, major bottlenecks will impact Interstate 75, Interstate 275, US 41, US 301, and several major state roads. While the majority of the work takes place overnight, a few critical spots will trigger full 24-hour blockades.

Interstate commuters will see heavy disruptions, particularly on I-275. Nightly closures are scheduled on the Howard Frankland Bridge between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties from May 31 to June 5, lasting from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nearby, the northbound lanes of I-275 from east of the bridge to Exit 39 will narrow down from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., while the southbound side before Exit 39 shifts from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Further east, I-275 from Willow Avenue to Green Street will experience closures from June 1 to June 4 between 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

On I-75, southbound traffic just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will drop lanes for a single night from 10 p.m. Thursday, June 4, until 5 a.m. Friday, June 5. However, a much longer project stretching from MLK Boulevard to Fowler Avenue will continue to cause nightly closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. all the way through July 17.

Major surface streets and bridges are also tied up in the work schedule. Drivers using the Gandy Bridge on US 92 will deal with eastbound restrictions from June 1 to June 5 between 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Over on US 41, daytime drivers will hit delays on the Nebraska Avenue bridge over the Hillsborough River from May 31 to June 6, with closures spanning 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The US 41 bridge over McKay Bay will shut down lanes at night from May 31 to June 4, between 7 p.m. and 6:30 a.m…
