Trial for man accused of stabbing a mother, daughter to death in 2023 underway

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — After allegedly killing a mother and daughter in 2023, the case against Jean Pierre Ojeda Salazar is finally being brought before a jury. Prosecutors say he stabbed the victims more than 20 times.

Alejandra Cabrejo and her daughter, Mariana Cabrejo, lost their lives in November 2023. On Tuesday, the prosecution brought video evidence, the murder weapon, and eyewitness testimony to build their case against Salazar.

In court, the suspect’s attorney did not deny that Salazar stabbed the victims during the case’s opening statements. Public Defender Donna Perry said, “He’s not going to come in here and claim self-defense; he could, there is nothing to rebut it, not one piece of evidence. What he is telling you is that something did happen, but it isn’t murder, it’s not first degree murder, not second degree murder, it’s manslaughter.”…
