HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A midday collision on Friday ended in two fatalities and left two others injured after a driver went through a red light at a busy intersection, state troopers reported.
The crash happened at approximately 12:50 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 60 and North Turkey Creek Road. According to investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 59-year-old Plant City woman was driving a Chevy Cobalt northbound on North Turkey Creek Road. As she approached SR-60, she entered the intersection despite a red traffic signal.
The Chevy Cobalt drove directly into the path of a Dodge Journey that was traveling eastbound on SR-60, driven by a 71-year-old woman from Sebring. The Dodge Journey rammed into the side of the Chevy Cobalt, sending both vehicles spinning across the roadway.
The force of the initial impact shoved the Chevy Cobalt all the way to the northeast corner of the intersection, where it collided with a nearby shed. Meanwhile, the Dodge Journey traveled northeast and crashed into a third vehicle…
