Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Unmarked Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy In Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – A Saturday night traffic crash involving a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy has turned fatal. A pedestrian who was struck by an agency vehicle has died from his injuries, officials confirmed Sunday afternoon.

The collision happened at roughly 10:20 p.m. on June 20, 2026, near the intersection of West Hillsborough Avenue and Ambassador Drive. Deputy Jonathan Kennon, 35, was driving eastbound in the center lane of West Hillsborough Avenue in an unmarked 2024 Chevrolet Silverado when his vehicle struck a pedestrian. According to investigators, the pedestrian was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the impact.

Immediately following the crash, Deputy Kennon pulled over and rendered medical aid to the man until emergency medical services arrived…
