TAMPA, Fla. – A San Diego man is facing up to five years in federal prison after admitting he mailed a violent death threat to conservative political commentator Benny Johnson. George Russell Isbell Jr., 69, entered a guilty plea in federal court for mailing threatening communications.
According to court documents, Isbell mailed the offensive and threatening letter on September 18, 2025, from San Diego to Johnson’s home in Tampa, Florida. Johnson’s wife discovered the envelope a few days later on September 24.
